	In an effort to stave off detrimental speculation in the financial markets and support the economy following the devastating earthquake which rocked Japan on Friday, the Bank of Japan announced an easing of monetary policy by expanding its current asset purchasing program, including government and corporate bonds, by 5 trillion yen to a grand total of about 40 trillion yen.
